Lee Frayer has been a Barbershop singer for over 43 years and was recently honored with the “ Florida Sunshine
District Barbershoppers Hall Of Fame Award for his many years of dedication and hard
work on behalf of the Florida District and the many chapters from Tampa to Ft. Myers.
Arriving in Sarasota 1n 1972 from Pontiac, Michigan he began taking on one duty after
another. Heading up International and district conventions and chair person for so many
local shows and district conventions that he has lost count of how many he worked. For
17 years he was the Florida Districts Convention Stage Production Manager calling
shows in almost every major theater in Florida. Meanwhile in his so called spare time, he
entertained in comedy barbershop quartets that traveled through-out the Eastern States
for some 26 years ( averaging two to three weekend a month ), all while working a full
time job and the musical chorus director of several barbershop and Sweet Adeline
chapters.
Lee is currently the musical director of the Venice Barbershop Chapter and along with
his wife Nancy, designs and builds stage props as well as stage production management
for several local groups.
If you’ve attended any of the Ditchfield Family singers shows at the Sarasota Opera
House during the last 9 years or last years Rosedale Gala Black Tie Event, You would
have seen the Frayers designs at work.
Lee says he doesn’t call working for the
Barbershoppers and the community just a hobby. To him it’s a way of life.
